Strada: The AI Revolution in Filmmaking 🤖

Hollywood tech wizards Michael and Peter Cioni have scored big with $1.9 million in pre-seed funding for their new venture, Strada. What's Strada all about? Well, they're diving headfirst into the world of AI and the cloud to make life easier for folks working in film production and postproduction.

So, what's Strada's game plan? They want to create a cloud platform with a subscription marketplace for editors, assistants, and other industry pros. It's all about automating those tedious tasks that slow down the creative process – think stuff like transcoding, transcribing, syncing sound, subtitling, and dubbing.

Michael Cioni, Strada's CEO, wants to be crystal clear: they're not trying to replace your editing and color grading tools. Instead, they're all about giving creatives more time to be, well, creative.

Strada's got a strategic partner, too – Panavision is on board, and their CEO, Kim Snyder, is joining Strada's advisory board.

Keep an eye out for a public beta test starting next year, so you can see what Strada's all about.

Coppola's Studio System Battle ⚔️

Hollywood's traditional studio system is in hot water with the rise of streaming and TV dominance. Francis Ford Coppola, a die-hard supporter of the old-school studios, has been on a mission to revamp them.

Coppola's idea of a studio that puts creativity first faced its fair share of challenges, thanks to his unconventional management style and shaky infrastructure. But he's not giving up. Recently, he showcased his $140 million self-funded film, "Megalopolis," and gave a fresh spin to "One From the Heart" in Venice, hoping to breathe new life into the Zoetrope brand.

It's high time for Hollywood to embrace a different studio model, and Coppola's approach, with the right tools and talent, could provide a safer yet creative space for filmmakers, delivering quality content to audiences.

However, skeptics warn that launching a new studio in this ever-changing entertainment landscape is no walk in the park. Coppola's journey, from indie filmmaker in the '60s to his struggles with "The Godfather" and "Apocalypse Now," reveals his unwavering love for cinema. Despite setbacks, he dabbled in electronic filmmaking and smaller projects.

Hollywood often resisted Coppola's innovative ideas, sticking to tried-and-true productions. Yet, his cinematic legacy endures, and he's still pushing boundaries. The big question is whether the Hollywood studio system can adapt and survive in today's entertainment world.

Swift's Movie: $65M+ in Pre-sales 🎤

"Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour" concert movie is already causing a stir, racking up over $65 million in advance ticket sales. And guess what? We're still a month away from its October 13th release! This jaw-dropping figure includes sales from major U.S. theaters like AMC, Regal, and Cinemark, not to mention Canada's Cineplex and Mexico's Cinépolis.

What's even more eye-popping is that it beats out the advance ticket sales of some massive superhero flicks like "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" and "The Batman" right before they hit theaters. But it's still trailing behind the pandemic record-holder, "Spider-Man: No Way Home," which scored a whopping $120 million in presales.

Now, industry insiders are buzzing about the possibility of "The Eras Tour" hitting a jaw-dropping $100 million at the box office on opening weekend. But here's the catch: It might depend on how many fans show up early because, you know, they like to go together.

Either way, if this concert movie rakes in over $70 million, it'll be a monumental achievement. It could even outshine previous concert films like "Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert," "Justin Bieber: Never Say Never," and "Michael Jackson’s This Is It."

The excitement is so real that some studios have made room for it at the fall box office. "The Eras Tour" is set to rock theaters for four consecutive weekends.

Glover's 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith' Delayed 🕒

Bad news for fans eagerly awaiting the Prime Video remake of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine. The series, originally set for a November release, has been pushed back to early 2024 due to the ongoing writers and actors strikes that have hit the industry.

This reimagining of the 2005 film, in which Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie played married assassins, is co-created and executive produced by Donald Glover, the creative force behind "Atlanta," and Francesca Sloane of "Fargo" fame. Glover takes on the role of John Smith, while Maya Erskine, known for her work in "PEN15," plays Jane Smith.

The series introduces viewers to the Smiths, two strangers who willingly surrender their identities to become espionage partners and, more uniquely, spouses. A shadowy agency matches them up, and each episode sees them on a new mission while exploring various aspects of their relationship.

Despite the delay, fans can still look forward to this fresh take on the action-comedy genre, combining espionage with the complexities of married life in a way that promises both intrigue and humor.
