Netflix's $7 Million Deal for 'His Three Daughters' π°

Netflix has just acquired its fourth Toronto Film Festival gem, "His Three Daughters," for nearly $7 million. This film, directed by Azazel Jacobs, boasts a stellar cast with Natasha Lyonne, Elizabeth Olsen, and Carrie Coon taking the lead roles.
The story revolves around three sisters who reunite when their father's health takes a turn for the worse. Netflix has been quite the shopper at the Toronto Film Festival, having previously acquired titles like "Hit Man," directed by Richard Linklater, and "Woman of the Hour," directed by Anna Kendrick. They're clearly on the lookout for intriguing and diverse content.
This family drama promises a gripping exploration of family dynamics, and with a talented team of producers and executive producers, it's got the makings of a must-watch. Netflix's dedication to bringing fresh and captivating content to its global audience continues with this latest acquisition.

Universal Grabs International Rights for 'Musk' Doc π

Universal Pictures Content Group has just made a big move by buying the international rights to Alex Gibney's upcoming documentary, "Musk." This documentary delves into the life and career of none other than the controversial tech mogul, Elon Musk.
The negotiations for this deal kicked off at the Cannes Market, and it's worth noting that this acquisition is one of the largest ever for a documentary at the festival. In addition to this international deal, HBO Documentary Films has already secured the North American streaming and TV rights, making "Musk" a hot commodity.
Alex Gibney, known for his work on documentaries like "Taxi to the Dark Side" and "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room," has been hard at work on this project for several months. "Musk" promises to be a candid and thorough examination of Elon Musk, who's had his share of controversy despite being one of the wealthiest individuals on the planet.
The documentary is backed by a powerhouse team of producers and executive producers from Jigsaw Productions, Closer Media, Anonymous Content's AC Independent, and Double Agent. While international rights are locked in, there's still the possibility of a domestic theatrical release for "Musk."

Redefining the BFI London Film Festival π¬π§

Kristy Matheson, the new director of the BFI London Film Festival (LFF), acknowledged following in the footsteps of her predecessor, Tricia Tuttle, and recognized LFF's strengths like audience-friendly screenings and its place in the awards season calendar.

PVOD Showdown πͺ²

Warner Bros. had a bit of an internal showdown on the PVOD scene. "Barbie," their massive hit, faced competition from their own house as "Blue Beetle" from the DC Comics division took the top spot at Vudu, even though it was priced lower at $19.99 compared to "Barbie's" $24.99 rental fee. However, "Barbie" managed to hold onto the number one position at iTunes and Google Play.
This week also brought three other newcomers to the PVOD arena. "Gran Turismo" (Sony) made it to the second spot at Vudu, while "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3" (Focus) secured the fourth position after its third weekend in theaters. "Muzzle," a revenge-themed flick akin to "John Wick," landed at sixth place on iTunes with a rental price of $6.99.
Over on Netflix, there was quite a shakeup. "Reptile," a crime drama starring Benicio Del Toro and Justin Timberlake, grabbed the top spot, followed by "Nowhere," a Spanish drama about refugees at sea. Netflix also welcomed international additions like "Love Is in the Air" from Australia and "Forgotten Love" from Poland.
