'Wonka': Family-Friendly with a Violent Twist 🍭

The upcoming movie "Wonka," a prequel to "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," has just been rated PG by the MPAA, making it family-friendly. However, there's a little twist – it contains some surprisingly violent moments, mild language, and thematic elements.

Now, you might think that's unusual for a family film, but it's not when you look at previous adaptations of Roald Dahl's book. The original 1971 adaptation had moments of tension, with Charlie narrowly escaping razor-sharp blades, and enduring that eerie tunnel ride with Willy Wonka.

Even Tim Burton's 2005 version, which had its quirky moments and mild language, got a PG rating. For "Wonka," the violence likely comes from the fact that it has clear villains rather than abstract concepts.

The trailers show them trapping Willy beneath a glass floor as the room fills with liquid chocolate, hinting at their dangerous methods. So, while "Wonka" may have some intense moments, it's still aiming to keep that family-friendly tone.

'The Exorcist: Believer' Faces Critic Storm β›ˆοΈ

"The Exorcist: Believer," the first movie in a planned horror trilogy, is getting hammered by critics. It's got a dismal 27 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Universal paid a jaw-dropping $400 million for the rights to the franchise back in 2021, so they're really counting on "Believer" to be a hit and set the stage for two more sequels.

The film is expected to have a decent opening weekend, possibly around $30 million to $35 million, which would be a franchise best. However, it's still unclear if these bad reviews will hurt its ticket sales.

The critics are not holding back. The New York Times sarcastically remarked, "Double the possession, half the fun," and The AV Club gave it a "D" grade, saying it's a mishmash of half-baked ideas without a clear theme.

Comparatively, other recent low-budget horror films like Lionsgate's "Saw X" and A24's "Talk to Me" received much better reviews, but they didn't come close to the predicted opening weekend box office of "Believer."

It's worth noting that Universal previously had a misfire with its Dark Universe classic monsters franchise, which started with Tom Cruise's "The Mummy" reboot in 2017.

Paramount+ Pulls the Plug on 'iCarly' πŸ”Œ

Fans of the "iCarly" revival, we've got some news for you. Paramount+ has decided not to bring back the show for a fourth season.

The revival, which kicked off in June 2021, had a great run of three seasons. A spokesperson from Paramount+ expressed their thanks to the entire cast, writers, directors, producers, and crew for their dedication and creativity.

For those who remember the original "iCarly," it was a beloved series that aired from 2007 to 2012. It followed a group of best friends who created a webcast while dealing with everyday challenges and adventures. The show was a massive hit and left its mark on pop culture.

The revival continued the story, picking up about a decade after the original series wrapped. Even though there won't be a fourth season, you can still catch all three seasons of the new "iCarly" on Paramount+.

Major Problems for Majors πŸ”

Jonathan Majors, the actor who plays Kang the Conqueror in the MCU is in some hot water. After his debut, he got slapped with some serious assault charges in March 2023.

It's kind of a big deal because he's supposed to be the MCU's next big bad, and they've got big plans for him. He made his first appearance as Kang in the "Loki" series and then popped up again in "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania."

He got arrested for misdemeanor assault, strangulation, and harassment after an incident with his girlfriend. Majors and his attorney are fighting these charges tooth and nail, claiming he's innocent.

The MCU kinda needs Kang the Conqueror, and recasting such a complex character isn't a walk in the park. Studio can't just ignore the charges against Majors, especially considering the seriousness of the allegations.

Majors' legal battle is ongoing, with a hearing set for October 25, 2023. But the big question remains – what's Marvel going to do about Kang the Conqueror?
