Jolie as Callas in Larraín's New Biopic 👓

Angelina Jolie is stepping into the shoes of legendary opera singer Maria Callas in a new biopic called "Maria," directed by Pablo Larraín, known for his work on films like "Jackie" and "Spencer."

The movie will explore the life of Maria Callas, who was often called the original diva. It's based on true stories and will focus on her eventful and tragic life during the 1970s in Paris.

This indie film, "Maria," is set to be filmed over eight weeks in various locations, including Paris, Greece, Budapest, and Milan. The script was written by Steven Knight, who collaborated with Larraín on "Spencer.”

What's fascinating is that Jolie's costumes in the movie are based on the actual outfits worn by Maria Callas. They even consulted with PETA to make sure no new fur was used.

Larraín is thrilled about the project and is looking forward to bringing Maria Callas' incredible life and work to audiences worldwide. FilmNation Entertainment will handle worldwide sales.

'The Beast' Secures U.S. Distribution 🤖

Sideshow and Janus Films have just acquired all the U.S. rights to "The Beast," a film that Bertrand Bonello, the creative mind behind "Saint Laurent," wrote and directed.

The film boasts a star-studded cast that includes Léa Seydoux, known for her role in "No Time to Die," and George MacKay, who made a big impression in "1917."

"The Beast" takes place in a not-so-distant future where artificial intelligence reigns supreme, and emotions are seen as quite the risky business.

The film has already made waves at the Venice Film Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival. It recently had its U.S. debut at the New York Film Festival. Sideshow and Janus Films plan to release "The Beast" in theaters in 2024.

The deal for U.S. rights was hammered out between Sideshow, Janus Films, and Kinology on behalf of the filmmakers.

Netflix UK's £1.54 Billion Revenue Surge 🇬🇧

The streaming giant Netflix UK revealed that its revenue from UK subscribers in 2022 hit a cool £1.54 billion ($1.9 billion). That's a solid 12% jump from the previous year when it was £1.4 billion.

Netflix UK's profits also got a boost, rising by 22% to reach £34.1 million. One interesting thing to note is that this is only the second time Netflix has spilled the beans on its UK sales.

They changed how they do their accounting in 2020, so now they're showing us the money more often.

They didn't give us the exact number of UK subscribers, but it's safe to say it's a lot. In fact, research body BARB said that by the end of 2022, around 17.2 million UK homes had Netflix.

Netflix also made sure to pay its taxes, forking over £6.4 million in income tax in 2022, up from £5.3 million in 2021.

Most of the happening is centered at Netflix's UK headquarters in London. They've been investing big bucks in producing shows and movies there, creating loads of jobs along the way.

Scorsese and De Niro: A Hollywood Bromance 🤝

Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro, the dynamic duo of Hollywood, are back at it for their 10th film together, "Killers of the Flower Moon." But their partnership has been brewing since they were teenagers.

They met when they were just 16 but lost touch for a while. Then, they reconnected through films like "Mean Streets" and "Taxi Driver." Turns out, they were both obsessed with diving deep into the minds of complex characters.

Scorsese wasn't too sure about directing "Raging Bull" at first, but De Niro pushed for it, and it turned into a masterpiece. De Niro has been like a guardian angel for Scorsese's career.

De Niro is all about the craft. He cares more about making the character authentic than looking good on screen.

Scorsese also gave a shout-out to another star, Leonardo DiCaprio, saying he found the same fearlessness in Leo when they worked together. They've pushed each other to new heights.

Scorsese-De Niro partnership has had its ups and downs, but it's been an amazing five-decade-long cinematic journey.
