'Pirates of the Caribbean' Reboot Greenlit π΄ββ οΈ

Craig Mazin, the mastermind behind "The Last of Us" series, recently opened up about his Pirates of the Caribbean reboot script. Surprisingly, he thought Disney would give it a hard pass because it was, in his words, "too weird." But guess what? Disney said, "We're in!"
Mazin, who worked on the script alongside Ted Elliott (one of the original Pirates of the Caribbean writers), had to put their project on hold due to strikes from the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA.
Now, Disney has been tinkering with various Pirates of the Caribbean projects, and Mazin's is one of them. It's important to note that this isn't connected to the Margot Robbie-led spinoff that got shelved earlier.
Margot Robbie had teased a female-driven story for the franchise, but we're still in the dark about the details.
As for Mazin's Pirates flick, it's a real enigma. We don't know much about the plot or how it fits into the franchise. And speaking of mysteries, we're not sure if Johnny Depp will return as Captain Jack Sparrow.

Nepo Things or Just an Artistic Family Bond? π¨βπ§

Maya and Ethan Hawke, that cool indie cinema father-daughter duo, recently had a chat about their latest flick, "Wildcat." Maya spilled the beans about her initial attempt to call her dad 'Ethan' on set, but it turned out to be a bit of a distraction, so 'Dad' it was. Despite their famous backgrounds, these two are as down-to-earth as it gets, and they're totally on the same page when it comes to art.
Maya's got this thing for Flannery O'Connor, the Southern Gothic writer, and she's been itching to bring her story to life. And guess what? This whole project was Maya's brainchild, so no, it's not some nepotism thing. They get that working as family in the movie biz can raise eyebrows.
"Wildcat" is all about diving into Flannery O'Connor's life and her complex personality. It's about showing that interesting folks aren't always the good guys and how their stories can teach us about our country's history.
In a nutshell, it's all about Maya and Ethan's genuine collaboration and their shared love for storytelling, even when the world's watching and judging.

A Historic Moment in Film: Neon Acquires 'Origin' βπΎ

Neon just snagged the global rights to Ava DuVernay's upcoming film, "Origin," right before it premieres at the Venice Film Festival. This is a big deal because Ava DuVernay is set to become the first Black female director to have her movie compete at Venice in its 80-year history.
"Origin" is a biopic inspired by Isabel Wilkerson's life and her Pulitzer Prize-winning book, "Caste: The Origin of Our Discontents." It delves into Wilkerson's journey of writing this influential book while dealing with personal tragedy. It's a story about bravery and beauty in the creation of a defining American masterpiece.
And the cast? Stellar! Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Jon Bernthal, Niecy Nash-Betts, Vera Farmiga, Audra McDonald, Nick Offerman, Blair Underwood, Finn Wittrock, Jasmine Cephas-Jones, and Connie Nielsen are all on board.
Neon's CEO, Tom Quinn, praised Ava DuVernay's storytelling genius and the movie's heartfelt adaptation of Wilkerson's work. DuVernay herself described the experience as a complicated journey that transformed her perspective on life and work, highlighting her fantastic partnership with Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor and her talented production team.
You can expect "Origin" to hit the screens in late 2023.

Netflix's Password-Sharing Strategy π

Netflix's co-CEO, Greg Peters, let out the truth on the streaming giant's ongoing battle with password-sharing during a recent conference chat. He admitted that Netflix will be wrestling with this issue for a while, even though they've come up with a clever way to tackle it. Basically, if you're borrowing someone else's Netflix, they're gently nudging you to get your own subscription. Of course, not everyone's thrilled about that.
Peters mentioned that they've been testing and refining their approach, mainly focusing on making sure users understand what they're trying to prevent. They want folks to know it's cool to use Netflix while traveling, for example.
They've also been tweaking their pricing and features, trying to cater to as many people as possible worldwide. So, Netflix aims to keep a wide range of prices and offerings to stay accessible to folks around the globe.
