Hollywood Production Drops 41% 📉

In the last quarter, Los Angeles saw a major 41% drop in production due to strikes by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA.

This affected not only scripted TV and film but also reality TV and commercials. Scripted TV production took the biggest hit, plummeting by a whopping 99%.

The good news is that the Writers Guild of America reached an agreement. However, SAG-AFTRA, representing actors and performers, remains on strike due to significant disagreements. Talks hit a roadblock in mid-October.

Even though there was a drop in production, it didn't affect film production as much because SAG-AFTRA allowed independent productions to continue.

The broader impact of these strikes is not just about numbers; it's about families, businesses, and jobs affected in the region. Overall, there were 5,311 location "shoot days" in the third quarter of 2023, compared to 9,066 in the same period last year.

Barry Levinson, the Oscar-winning filmmaker, is taking the reins to direct a captivating drama called "Assassination."

So, what's the buzz about? Well, "Assassination" delves into the intriguing tale of how Chicago mobster Sam Giancana pulled the strings to assassinate President John F. Kennedy.

It's all about mob payback for the government's crackdown on organized crime after they helped JFK win the White House.

The legendary Al Pacino is onboard, playing Tony Accardo, a top mob boss. Plus, you've got Shia LaBeouf and a talented ensemble.

"Beckham" Sets UK TV Premiere Record ⚽️

Netflix has hit a home run with their documentary series "Beckham," where David and Victoria Beckham talk about their lives. It's become the UK's highest-rated TV premiere since "Harry & Meghan."

This show, directed by Fisher Stevens and produced by Beckham's Studio 99 and Ventureland, made its grand entrance on October 4.

And you won't believe the numbers – it racked up a whopping 3.8 million viewers in the UK for the week ending on October 8.

And the second episode? Well, it did pretty darn well too, pulling in nearly 2.9 million viewers.

These numbers only count the folks watching on television sets. Mobile viewers aren't in this count. "Beckham" carved out its spot as the highest-rated TV episode on Netflix in the UK since "Harry & Meghan" back in December 2022.

In the US, it held onto the number one spot for two weeks straight with 11.6 million views from October 9 to October 15, according to Netflix's data.
