WGA's Silence on Israel-Hamas Conflict 🤫

A bunch of well-known TV showrunners are not too happy with the Writers Guild of America (WGA) because they've been silent about the recent attacks on Israel by Hamas.
Apparently, some of these showrunners have been trying to get in touch with WGA leaders, asking why they're not speaking up. The response they got was something about a "process" for making political statements.
Meanwhile, other Hollywood guilds like the Directors Guild of America (DGA) and SAG-AFTRA have already condemned the attacks and shown support for Israel.
SAG-AFTRA, for example, called it a violation of human rights and dignity, and they want those who are missing and held hostage to come back safely. The DGA also made it clear they're against terrorism and are against the rise of antisemitism.
So, the bottom line here is that the Writers Guild is now the odd one out in Hollywood. They're the only major creative guild that hasn't said anything about what's happening in Israel.

Netflix: Embracing Local Culture 🌍

Netflix is all about embracing local culture and flavors in their European series. They had a panel discussion in Rome where they talked about their strategy.
They want to make shows that truly capture the essence of each country they're in, taking into account the unique regional vibes.
In Italy, they've got series like "The Law According to Lidia Poët" and "Supersex" that are all about shaking up traditional gender roles and portraying a more modern Italy.
In Spain, they're diving into different languages and communities to tell stories that resonate with everyday Spaniards. It's all about reflecting the real lives of people in Spain and connecting them with the stories they see on screen.
And don't forget the Nordics – they're cooking up a show called "Billionaire Island," which is like a local twist on "Dallas."
So, Netflix is basically spicing up classic ideas with local ingredients to give each series its own unique flavor. They want viewers to feel a connection with the stories, and it's all about celebrating regional diversity and authenticity.

Disney's "Prom Pact" Sparks Debate 🗣️

There's this Disney rom-com called "Prom Pact," and it's been making the rounds on social media.
A clip from the film's pep rally scene went viral. In this clip, you can see these fake digital characters in the stands, cheering alongside real background actors.
What's interesting about this is that it's coming at a time when Hollywood is dealing with the SAG-AFTRA strike. One of the big issues in the strike is about actors' likenesses being used digitally without their consent.
Background actors, especially, are concerned that they might lose their jobs as studios could just scan their likenesses and digitally put them into scenes.
The characters in this particular scene weren't actual actors scanned by AI; they were created using other visual effects techniques by CG artists.
Digital extras in movies and TV shows are quite common. They're a cost-effective way to create large crowds for scenes. But what makes "Prom Pact" stand out is that the shot was relatively close-up, making those digital extras pretty obvious.
Movies Released on October 16th 🎞️
ITV CEO on the Future 🔮

Carolyn McCall, the CEO of ITV, talked about a bunch of interesting stuff. They launched their streaming service, ITVX, and it's been a hit, with over 2 billion streams and more users.
They're also checking out how AI can make things more creative and efficient, and they see it as an opportunity, not a threat.
They're super proud of ITVX and the growth of ITV Studios, which is now a major player on the world stage.
And, they're all for improving equality and diversity in the industry. It starts with everyone believing in it, setting public targets, and modernizing things like recruitment.
They're big on inclusion to make the industry welcoming for everyone.
