'Demeter' Struggles at the Box Office 🧛♂️

In a cinematic tale of contrasting fates, "The Last Voyage of the Demeter," a period horror film chronicling a merchant ship's chilling encounter with a vampire, struggles to make waves at the domestic box office. Despite a $45 million production budget, the film's initial earnings of $2.62 million on opening day, including $750,000 from Thursday previews, forecast a modest debut in fifth place with an expected weekend total of just $6.5 million. Critics have been less than kind, granting the film a meager 27% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and audiences have shown tepid interest, earning it a "B-" Cinema Score.
Meanwhile, the triumphant saga of "Barbie" continues as it garners $31.4 million from 4,178 locations in its fourth weekend, experiencing only a 41% drop from the previous frame. The film has even achieved the illustrious billion-dollar mark globally, solidifying director Greta Gerwig's status as the first solo female filmmaker to reach this milestone. Starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, "Barbie" has surpassed the $500 million threshold domestically, positioning itself to potentially become Warner Bros.' highest-grossing North American release.
Similarly, Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer" maintains its strong performance, accruing $5.1 million from 3,761 theaters on Friday, with a projected $17.2 million weekend gross and total domestic ticket sales of $262 million.
Paramount Pictures' "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" follows suit, earning $4 million on its second Friday, indicating a 56% decline from its debut. The animated feature is set to wrap up the weekend with an anticipated $14.6 million, contributing to a cumulative domestic total surpassing $71.6 million.
On a contrasting note, "Meg 2: The Trench" faces a considerable challenge, projecting a modest $11.8 million from 3,604 theaters in its second weekend, marking a substantial 60% drop from its $30 million opening weekend.

Austin Butler's Career Advice from Tom Hanks 🛩️

Austin Butler, known for his Oscar-nominated portrayal of Elvis Presley in the biopic "Elvis," recently shared a valuable piece of advice he received from his co-star, Tom Hanks. According to Butler, Hanks, who played Colonel Tom Parker in the movie, advised him during a dinner conversation to swiftly immerse himself in another role to prevent what he referred to as "emotional whiplash."
Butler recounted Hanks' advice during an interview with the UK's Times newspaper. Hanks told him that after deeply immersing himself in the character of Elvis, it would be wise for Butler's mental well-being to transition into another role without abruptly disengaging from the intense experience.
Hanks elaborated, saying, "If you just jump off the train, you might have emotional whiplash… And, you know, I've got this thing I'm producing."
Following this insightful conversation, Butler took Hanks' advice to heart. As a result, Butler's upcoming projects include a role as Major Gale Cleven in "Masters of the Air," the third installment in the Second World series produced by Hanks and Steven Spielberg. This series, set to stream on AppleTV+, follows the experiences of the 100th Bombardment Group of the USAF during World War II and is based on a book by Donald L Miller.
Butler's journey in the entertainment industry has been notable. He initially gained recognition as a child TV star and later achieved a significant breakthrough in 2018 when he appeared alongside Denzel Washington in the Broadway production of "The Iceman Cometh."
Reflecting on this pivotal role, Butler shared, "That really shifted my career. It was such a challenge, working with an absolute titan."
In essence, Tom Hanks' advice has not only guided Austin Butler in navigating the emotional aftermath of his transformative role as Elvis Presley but has also influenced his subsequent career choices, propelling him towards new opportunities and challenges in the world of entertainment.
