UK Actors Support Green Rider for Sustainable Filmmaking 🌿

A group of 100 actors, including Hayley Atwell, Bill Nighy, and Mark Rylance, are supporting a new initiative called the Green Rider contract in the U.K. film and TV industry. Led by the U.K. entertainment union Equity, the Green Rider aims to enhance the sustainability of the industry and empower artists to negotiate better practices. The Green Rider would be added to standard Equity contracts and can be tailored to specific production circumstances. It encourages commitments to sustainability, such as avoiding high-impact choices like private air travel and using low-carbon transport options. The aim is for the Green Rider to become part of collective agreements Equity holds with producers.

The Green Rider was collectively created by Equity for a Green New Deal, a network advocating climate justice in the performing arts and entertainment industry. The initiative aligns with broader efforts in the industry to promote environmentally friendly practices. The Green Rider's launch comes alongside an online campaign for signatories to Equity's #GreenRider campaign.

Mark Rylance, one of the supporting actors, described the Green Rider as a template to encourage ecological practices and promote positive change in the film and television industry. Paapa Essiedu highlighted that the film industry's current practices contribute to waste and environmental damage, but the Green Rider offers clear guidelines for a more sustainable future. Equity is in discussions with companies like the BBC, ITV Studios, and Sky Studios to pilot the Green Rider in upcoming productions.

Uncertain Return of Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow 🏴‍☠️

Johnny Depp, well-known for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series, might not reprise his iconic role, leaving fans disappointed. Depp's portrayal of Sparrow, a charming and quirky pirate seeking treasure, has gained immense popularity and recognition. However, recent news suggests that Depp's return to the franchise may not happen due to his legal dispute with Amber Heard.

Despite Depp's popularity among fans and the pirate subculture, it remains uncertain if Disney, the franchise's producer, will collaborate with him again. The Pirates of the Caribbean film series, centered around Captain Jack Sparrow's adventures, has been a significant success at the box office, grossing over $4.5 billion globally. The franchise's films, including The Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man's Chest, At World's End, On Stranger Tides, and Dead Men Tell No Tales, have garnered critical acclaim and various awards. Depp's absence could impact the series, leaving fans hopeful for a potential return in the future.

Despite the disappointment, Depp's contribution to the franchise remains noteworthy, and his portrayal of Jack Sparrow has left an indelible mark on cinematic history.

Reviving Urban Legend Horror 🐉

For years, horror movies have been inspired by local legends and eerie tales that feel too close to reality. From the 1990s to the early 2000s, these urban legend-based films were a hit, with stories like "The Mothman Prophecies" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer" bringing spooky tales to the big screen. These movies took well-known myths, like cursed emails or the "Bloody Mary" legend, and turned them into thrilling stories. However, this trend faded over time, leaving fans wanting more of these unique horror tales.

Recent attempts like 2018's "Slender Man" were underwhelming and reminded Hollywood why they moved away from this subgenre. Independent projects and documentaries still circulate, but fans crave original yet familiar urban legend horror.

However, urban legend horror isn't completely gone. While Hollywood may not make as many of these films as before, there's potential for a resurgence. Podcasts and TV shows, like "Lore" and paranormal-themed documentaries, have given these stories a new platform. Yet, true fans yearn for dramatic and terrifying adaptations on the big screen.

Now, more than ever, it's the right time to bring back these spine-tingling tales. With new UFO revelations and ongoing fascination with the paranormal, legends like the Flatwoods Monster deserve their chance. Incorporating these stories into existing franchises or using them as inspirations can revive the urban legend horror genre.

Charles Martinet Retires as Voice of Mario 🎮

Nintendo has announced that Charles Martinet, the voice actor known for his portrayal of Mario in video games, is retiring from voicing the character. Martinet's voice has been associated with Mario since the game "Super Mario 64." He will now take on a new role as "Mario Ambassador," interacting with fans and sharing the joy of the character without recording voices for games. This decision comes after the success of "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," in which Chris Pratt voiced Mario.

Martinet expressed his excitement about the new adventure on his Twitter account and thanked fans for their support. His energetic catchphrase "woohoo" as Mario's voice has become well-known among players. However, the film's success might lead younger fans to associate Pratt's voice with Mario.

It's unclear whether Chris Pratt will lend his voice to Mario in video games as well as movies. The announcement marks a change for the beloved video game character, as Pratt's portrayal in the movie could shape how fans perceive Mario's voice in the future.

Overall, Martinet's retirement as the voice of Mario and his transition to a new role show how characters from video games can evolve beyond their initial forms, engaging with fans in different ways and adapting to new media while maintaining their iconic status.
