Taika Waititi on His Life in the “Slow Lane” 🏖️

Taika Waititi, the guy who's been juggling more projects than you can count, is all set to release his latest film, "Next Goal Wins." This man's been super busy with "Thor: Love And Thunder," TV shows like "Reservation Dogs," and tons of other stuff, including a live-action "Akira" and "Flash Gordon."
But here's the interesting part: his latest film's message is something that totally resonates with him – "Be happy, and slow the f*** down." Makes sense, right?
"Next Goal Wins" is about the American Samoa national football team trying to win their first-ever match, and it's based on a beautiful 2014 documentary. Michael Fassbender plays a version of Dutch-American coach Thomas Rongen, who not only tried to whip the team into shape but also changed himself through his Samoan pals' warm welcome.
Interestingly, Taika Waititi saw a bit of himself in the character he created. He talked about how he's had to learn patience and be more relaxed when working with others.
"Next Goal Wins" hits UK cinemas on December 26, and you can catch more of Taika's thoughts on the film and his own journey in his interview with Empire magazine.

Post-Strike Comeback 🔙

Hollywood's back in business after the writers' strike, but the SAG-AFTRA walkout is still ongoing. Studios are eager to get their projects rolling.
Big names like Paramount and Warner Bros. have priority projects, including "Star Trek" and "The Batman" sequel. Some films are ready to roll, like "Minecraft" and "Superman: Legacy." As soon as the actors' strike ends, a ton of productions will kick off. "Gladiator" sequel, "Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part Two," "Beetlejuice 2," and more are back on track.
But it won't be smooth sailing. Finding talent and shooting locations will be a challenge, and everyone's chasing the same directors and stars.
On TV, networks are focused on continuing existing shows. They can quickly reassemble teams. But it'll be a hectic return for writers and talent.

State of Latin Representation 📉

A new report on diversity in the entertainment industry is telling us that Latin representation in TV and movies has hit a rough patch. After making some progress from 2018 to 2021, things have taken a nosedive recently.
In 2021, Latin actors accounted for 2.9% of lead roles, 3.7% of co-leads, 2.5% of showrunners, and 2.5% of directors. But in 2022, those numbers dropped to 2.6%, 2.6%, 1.4%, and 1.5%, respectively, despite the Latin population in the US growing to 19%.
Interestingly, Latin viewers are changing their habits too. Instead of sticking to traditional TV and streaming services, they're flocking to platforms like YouTube and TikTok. Why? Because they find more content there that represents them.
The report argues that boosting Latin representation isn't just about diversity; it's good for business too. Authentic content attracts Latin viewers, which means more profit for the industry.

'PAW Patrol' vs. 'Saw X' 🐾🪚

This weekend, there's a box office showdown. Paramount's "PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie" is aiming for the top spot, but it's up against fierce competition from "Saw X," "The Creator," and "Dumb Money."
"PAW Patrol" hopes to earn $18-20 million, but "Saw X" is right behind with $15-18 million, possibly even more. "The Creator" is expected to debut with $16-19 million, while "Dumb Money" may bring in $5-8 million as it expands.
These diverse films aim to revive a lackluster September at the box office, appealing to different audiences. "PAW Patrol" benefits from its successful franchise, while "Saw X" continues the horror series' legacy. "The Creator" boasts a bigger budget and international appeal, while "Dumb Money" faces challenges due to a star-studded cast's inability to promote it during a strike.
It's a genre battle this weekend, and we'll see which film comes out on top. Will it be the animated heroes, the horror thrills, the sci-fi intrigue, or the quirky comedy? Moviegoers have a variety of options to choose from!
